Schumer hits Trump over Putin:Trump’s priorities are appalling and undermine democracy

Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer hammered President Trump over his call with Russian President Vladimir Putin after Trump said the two did not discuss Moscow’s efforts to meddle in U.S. elections.
“Instead of pressing Putin on the #MuellerReport’s extensive evidence that Russia hacked our elections, They gossiped about Fox News conspiracy theories?” Schumer tweeted Friday night. “Trump’s priorities are appalling and undermine democracy.”
Attached to Schumer’s tweet was an edited video that spliced together comments from several intelligence officials confirming that Russia meddled in the 2016 and 2018 elections and intends to do so again in 2020.

“I think we recognize that our adversaries are going to keep adapting and upping their game. And so we’re very much viewing 2018 as just kind of a dress rehearsal for the big show in 2020,” FBI Director Christopher Wray says in one clip.
Trump told reporters on Friday afternoon that he did not confront Putin about Russia’s interference in U.S. elections during their call, which lasted more than an hour. It was the first reported call since special counsel Robert Mueller finished his sprawling probe into Russia’s meddling and potential obstruction of justice by Trump.
The president lashed out at a reporter who interjected to ask whether he warned the Russian leader not to interfere in elections, telling NBC’s Kristen Welker, “You are very rude.” Asked again, Trump said, “We didn’t discuss that. Really, we didn’t discuss it.”
Trump said the two “went into great detail” on issues such as Venezuela, North Korea and nuclear arms control during the call.
While Trump said that he did not discuss Russia’s election interference, he confirmed that he and Putin talked about Mueller’s probe, which Trump referred to as “the Russian Hoax.”
Trump has repeatedly raised eyebrows by appearing skeptical of the intelligence community’s unanimous consensus that Moscow interfered in the 2016 race, most notably announcing during a summit with Putin in 2017 that he believed Russia’s denials that no effort was made to meddle in the election.
